Osaka Castle

Last night I stayed up to about 4am last night socialising with the host and other coursurfers in the house. I was quite jetlagged so I awoke this afternoon, and so I asked the host directions to Osaka Castle and he said just simply follow the river.

And in the evening

That was all good but then trying to get home there was 3 different rivers which came from the castle so I wasnt really sure which one to take. I ended up following the two wrong rivers first and finally figuring out to follow the correct one haha. So I was lost for about 6 hours, then when I gave up asking local Japanese directions I got a taxi. It drove for about 5 seconds then I saw the place I was staying at!!! Which cost me 660 yen!!! I couldnt believe he made me pay I was so angry haha. But now Im back in the apartment, safe and sound.

  1. Quite an adventure! You did the right thing getting a taxi. Have you got sunscreen and a hat yet (typical mum comment sorry!)

  2. Some advice I found on the internet:
Taxis in Japan are expensive, to the point that if you can walk or just use public transport, do.

    1. Most importantly, shop around. Check the rear left passenger door window. There will be a price between 500 and 660 yen. This is the price for the first 3 kms, but the mileage ratio after this is also similarly varied so 500 yen works out much cheaper if you are going any distance.

    2. If there's a half empty bottle of whisky on the front seat it's probably not a good idea to get in. If the bottle is empty, it's definitely not a good idea!

  3. Yes - did the right thing getting a Taxi. Tough about the money though but these are the breaks. Thinking of you. Keep safe. Given a good few people this site address so they can keep up. Cheers.
